Consultancy support for charities, trusts, foundations and philanthropists

The intersection of social and environmental issues

I specialise in the space where social and environmental issues bump into each other. It's often where issues of justice and fairness come to the fore. Our changing climate and environment do not affect all people in the same way and with the people that charities and funders commonly support often affected the most - especially those on low incomes. I work with charities, trusts, foundations, and philanthropists to support them to explore the links between social and environmental issues and act to create a fairer, healthier and more sustainable future for everyone. You can read more about my services in this space, including Carbon Literacy training and a specific interest in multisolving.

My background and experience

I have 25 years of experience in the charity sector. Prior to freelancing, I held various roles in charity think tank and consultancy NPC, including Principal Consultant for Effective Philanthropy, Principal Consultant for Strategy, and Environmental Lead. In my time there I co-founded and was Programme Director for the Everyone's Environment programme, a collaboration of over 80 social and environmental charities to accelerate action on the social impacts of the environmental crises.  My previous experience included strategy, impact, and participation focused roles in the British Red Cross, Girlguiding UK, The Challenge Network, and smaller, lesser-known charities in the UK and overseas. â€‹I am a proud trustee of the Eating Better Alliance and of the Environmental Funders Network (I temporarily stepped down from the latter role to serve as Interim Director September 2024 to February 2025). I have previously held trustee roles in a range of social and environmental charities including Pesticide Action Network, several mental health charities and a youth centre in Eltham, London.

About me

My path to working on the intersection of social and environmental issues arose from personal experience. I live with an endocrine disability, PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder), which led me to learn about endocrine disrupting chemicals, pesticides, and other environmental impacts on human health. And the rest, as they say, is history. I live in Devon with my husband and our two young girls where we are working toward a sustainable, self sufficient way of life.
